Week 2 | Introduction to Adobe Photoshop

Dive into the second week of the class, we have learnt about the basic tool of Photoshop such as marquee, lasso, magic wand and so on. After then we started with the exercise of the week - photo collage by using adobe photoshop.

Before starting with the collage, I applied the rule of thirds as the background, then use the quick selection tool to select the unwanted part of the pictures. In the few next steps, I continue the previous steps for the next photo collage.

When doing the collage, I found out the saturation of the background was too saturated for the entire pictures, so that I adjusted the saturation to make it looks more gel into the entire collage.

Cut off the half part of the building to make it looks make sense.

The final outcome of the collage for today class.

After done the exercise, we were assigned to do the heart mansion assignment. I cut out myself from the other photo using quick selection tool and paste it in the heart mansion photo, then use the match colour tool to make the image gel into the whole concept.

After rescale and matched the self image, I created a reflection by duplicated the original photo and flipped it to make it looks more realistic.

The next steps is create the water reflection effect by selecting the ripple function.

Finally this is the completion of the photo!

1. Copy skin and hair photo from the other photo.

2. Paste the photo into the main photo and use eyedropper tool [I] to select the suitable skin colours and use brush tool to mark it at the corner for later use. Use quick selection tool [W] to select the skin and mask it. Select the mask and use the refine edge brush tool, adjust the smart radius to refine the edge of the selection. Once done, select the solid colour and use eyedropper to choose the most suitable hair colour from the corner there, drag the mask to the solid colour bar there and change the blending option into soft light.

For the following part of the pictures, I repeated the steps above to colour all the part.

FINAL OUTCOME:

REFLECTION
Overall, it was the first time that I tried to do physical collage with the material that I had in hand. The process was interesting but take time. During the whole process, I understand the importance of composition and the golden ratio, rule of thirds etc. Besides I also realised the pen tool was not that difficult to use as I thought.
